Blanca and Kevin's parents have expressed an enormous amount of appreciation for the support that they are receiving from all fronts. They are truly in awe of the love and encouragement from everyone. At this time, they are moving into the long haul of recovery. Kevin is hanging tough and has begun receiving skin graphs on his arms and shoulders.
The past week, as you would imagine, has been incredibly draining for the Shaeffer's. He and his family received the initial backing from you all that they needed to push through that very difficult first week. As the hospital personnel prepare Kevin and the family for the road ahead, they have asked that those looking to offer support focus on sending cards and e-mails spread out over the course of the long recovery. The visits are incredibly appreciated but at this point are tending to drain a lot of energy from Kevin and his family. In an effort to somewhat flatten the peaks and valleys of the emotional swings, they are asking that the visits and phone calls be very limited for now. Yesterday, they had to turn off several VIP and personal visitors to ensure that Kevin and his family got the rest that they needed. As his condition and responsiveness improve, they will certainly be able to accommodate more visitors. The doctors made everyone aware that there will be numerous stages in the healing process and each one will require varying types of support from family and friends. Kevin, his family and the doctors appreciate your love, support and understanding. You will be kept abreast of his condition and the form of support that will serve him best.God Bless America,
