Dear Class of 1994, I don't know where to start, but if you have not heard about Jay Schultz, I am sorry to inform you via email. Jay and Kathryn (wife)were in town last weekend (Sept 14-16) here in Chicago for a mini-reunion for the Navy-Northwestern football game. Eleven guys from our class were suppose to fly in for the game, but only four of us made it due to the terrorist attacks. To cut to the point, Jay and one other guy from the USNA Class of 1994 were jumped while they were walking back to my apartment in downtown Chicago. Jay was beaten to the ground and was kicked in the head several times. Jay is still in critical condition and has undergone brain surgery. He is a fighter and we are all hopeful for his full recovery. However, the doctors are not sure how long the healing process will take. How you can help: 1. Pray for Jay, his wife Kathryn, and their families. 2. A few people have sent care packages (i.e. flowers, fruit baskets, and sandwiches) to the hospital. The outpouring of love and support so far has been tremendous. If inclined, please continue to support his family in this way. Jay is at Cook County Hospital, 1835 W. Harrison Street, Chicago, IL 60612. Please DO NOT CALL THE HOSPITAL for it is too difficult for the family to relive the events of that night. We are trying to figure a means of communication to keep everyone updated on Jay's status, so please bear with us. 3. Cards or letters of encouragement to Kathryn (Jay's wife) and Mrs. & Mr. Schultz (Carol & Bob) can be sent to my work address: Matt Friedlander RailMarketPlace Atten: Starrin Kinser 10 South Wacker Drive 13th Floor Chicago, IL 60606 4. In preparation for Kathryn and her mom or dad to move in with me, I purchased a queen-size bed. I am only five minutes from the hospital. I am sub-leasing a friend's apartment until December. There is a spare storage room that I am in the process of converting to a room for however long she needs to stay in the area. Any financial support in this and other odds and ends to furnish the bedroom would be greatly appreciated. Please contact me via emai(matt_friedlander@yahoo.com) for this or otherfinancial assistance you wish to extend to Jay and Kathryn in their time of need. 5.
